Update #2
One of our members who is a state certified instructor in Massachusetts has this to say about the project:
I became an instructor in the spring of this year and have since helped 57 people become eligible to apply for their LTCs in Massachusetts. Not all of them have accompanied me to the range for further, hands-on lessons, but for those that have there's always been an air of unease about the whole trip. The possibility of being harassed or worse is ever present for our comrades with any and all visible marginalization(s), especially so when you add guns to the mix. As a result, there are no ranges in Southern New England, public or private, where they can shoot without looking over their shoulder. Without scanning the bags, shirts, and bumper stickers of those in neighboring lanes.
The goal of this project is to create a safe haven for all those who do not fit - or do not want to fit - into the dominant firearms culture informed by settler colonialism and stubborn machismo. Given that it is our organization's responsibility to make community defense, up to and including the responsible use and ownership of firearms, an accessible reality to those most marginalized in America today it is plainly apparent that our own private range would do more than any single other thing to allow us to fulfill that responsibility.
If you are in a position to donate, I ask that you please do so. Your money will go directly towards the creation of a space where those who cannot assimilate into right wing gun culture can focus on their training without fear of reprisal by those who would see them subjugated or dead. Further, it is our hope that the success of this project will inspire our comrades elsewhere to do the same or even to exceed us. Let's build something concrete that stands opposed to bigots. Let's build real working class power. Together, today.
